Blue Bed Quilt Part 3 and my Quilt Inspector

I finally finished the quilt top!!!!!

Here it is all laid out on the floor.  You can see that my "Quilt Inspector" (Pluto the Beagle) thinks it is already a nice spot to lay down on!  I had such problems with the last blue border... I was using one of the Andover "Dimple" prints that I have had for a while, and they do not say their specific color number on the selvage!  I ended up cutting off a piece and mailing it to a quilt shop so that they could help me figure out exactly which color it was.  It was an unexpected delay in trying to finish this quilt.

The backing is going to be a wide backing from fabic.com, "Kaufman 108" Wide Quilt Backing Widescreen Grid Tonal White", which is basically a white on white crosshatch turned 45 degrees.  I am excited about the binding that I chose, it is a blue striped fabric, I think it will bring a bit of fun and whimsy to the quilt, you will have to stay tuned to see a picture of it.

Now I am off to pin everything together, wish me luck.  In the meanwhile, here's another picture of the Quilt Inspector...

Texas Roadtrip Quiltalong!

As I stated in my first post, I am participating in the Texas Roadtrip Quiltalong.  I have just finished Quadrant 1 and Quadrant 2 and just wanted to share an update on how it looks.

Today the pattern for Quadrant 3 was released and so I can get started working on that soon.  There is a large contingent of flying geese in that quadrant and I am waiting to see how other people tackle it before I sew mine.  I can't decide if I want them all to be the same, or completely random, or the same background with different centers, or the same centers with different backgrounds- so many choices!

Tomorrow- El Paso!

Blue Bed Quilt Part 2

My blue bed quilt is coming along nicely!  I made the pinwheel border out of the leftover triangles from the flying geese.  The hardest part is figuring out the quilt math to see how big I need to make each border so that everything turns out the right size in the end.

The "Variable star" is one of my favorite quilt blocks so that is the next border.  After that there will be a small navy blue border and that will be it!

Blue Bed Quilt Part 1

While my sister is busy quilting the baby quilt, I can get back to work on my new queen-sized bed quilt!  My sister found some tutorial online for a scrappy Lone Star quilt and then I copied her idea for the center of the quilt.

I added the flying geese border around the Lone Star and now I am trying to figure out the rest of the borders to make it big enough for a queen size bed!

Plus Baby Quilt Part 2

I finished sewing up the baby quilt that my sister and I are making for our cousin, here it is on my design wall again!
We chose a Very Hunger Caterpillar print for the backing and I pinned it all together, it is all ready to mail to my sister so that she can get started on the quilting.  We decided on straight line quilting 1/4" from each of the vertical and horizontal seams, it's going to be a lot of straight lines!
